So I bought about 20 Nassarius snails a few months ago. They have blown up in population. I probably have a 1000 now. My question is are they known for population explosions? I have attached some pictures. Any info on these critters would be great

Thanks

If you have a really bright flashlight, you can probably use that and get a better picture without worrying about the color of the tank lights making everything look weird.

I agree with WheatToast, Nassarius snails stay in the sandbed and only eat leftover food. They could be Zig Zag periwinkles, I have a few hundred of those in my 75. Good algae eaters. But still need a better picture to make a positive ID.

At night when lights are off my glass is covered with them, I purchased several hundred of those zigzag periwinkles. When the lights start to ramp up they all go back into hiding. And they stay small, which is why I bought several hundred.

They look more like baby trochus snails that I’ve in my tank.

Yeah probably not nassarius. One thing to note when buying nassarius snails is to make sure you get that common nassarius snails species. Plenty of others (including some less reef safe ones) are often sold as nassarius.

I will never buy nassarius snails again. They seem worthless to me. And they cannot turn themselves over. I have a tang that likes to nip at their shells (algae) and winds up flipping them over sometimes. I’m constantly flipping them back over. aggravating.

They are the easiest to hatch with good survival rates and release hundreds of eggs when disbursed

Here are some more pictures. My goodness is it hard to zoom in on these things. I do have a orange filter so I hope that helps for you guys to see.
