Well Tamatoa has outgrown his shell and I've had all kinds of trouble finding a bigger one. Anybody have any ideas on where I could find one?
The only place I've found anything is ebay. I'm looking at this one in particular but I'm not sure if the hole it has will bother the crab (or if the opening will be large enough for him)? What do you all think?

Try hobby stores, you have to make sure they are coated or polished.

Hobby stores aren't really open these days but I looked around a bit before covid hit and couldn't find anything. But I was only looking for natural unpolished shells. Why do I want that is coated/polished?

I appreciate the links 35ppt, the $50 one I'm gonna hold off on due to price, the $19 looks great and the price is right but the description says it is polished... I emailed the seller to clarify if they use a chemical polish on it

Hey! Love the pics. Can you kindly give me a better idea of the size of your hermit crab? I’m trying to gauge it

Zoo Med used to sell shells not sure if they still do or not. Ive seen some at Petco and Petsmart recently, they had some large ones for about 15-20 dollars. Depending on where you live they might be open.

Thanks but too small jasonk

Well his current shell is about 5" diameter and about 6" long.. These are small measurements, it might be a bit bigger

Really, petco and petsmart? I never would have thought to look there. My lfs told me the aren't able to import conch shells anymore. I'll check out those stores!

Absolutely crazy!!!

How long have you had this beast?

We picked him up in December. We had set up and cycled a tank hoping to catch and bring a fish back from a trip to Hawaii but didn't end up catching anything so we just had this tank sitting there.

Went to an lfs and saw loved the crab! So we came back the next day to get him and the lfs workers tried there best to convince me not to buy him. He was there pet and they were sure he would kill anything in my tank, spit up sandstorms, rearrange rocks, and just be evil. Except my tank didn't have any creatures in it for him to kill and I had the same large grain crushed coral substrate they had so they said there goodbyes and we brought him home!
