I have been offered this stand and if I go with it I need to make a matching canopy

What wood do you think this is? Typical pine?

Thanks

The framing does look like regular pine that has been stained. Not sure what type of plywood was used. I can't see it that well

Not sure what yall mean by typical/regular pine? I don't work with pine a ton but probably have six different species in my shop. If your talking about construction grade white pine like spruce and fir that's not it. My guess from its rings and lack of knots is untreated yellow pine. I think there's 7 species available in North America. Personally I'd sand it down as trying to match that old stain and poly might be harder than the wood.

Is it homemade? From the pic, it looks a lot like stained pine. Here’s one I made a while back out of 2x4’s, which are pine, and a pine plywood and some stain. I kind of don’t like the way it turned out, and have always wanted to rebuild it with different material, but I think it looks a lot like yours as far as the wood.

You could paint the stand and your new canopy.
100% match :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
This is a great idea, but may be difficult if the stand has been stained or had another oil finish applied.
