Last night I went to top off my nano and was shocked to find one of my yasha gobies on top of the lid! Fortunately he hadn't been there too long and lived to tell about his experience but I think it would be best to avoid another misadventure.

I had already swapped the stock 1/4" mesh in the Innovative Marine lid for 1/8" but apparently this is still not small enough. Any suggestions for a mesh that is smaller, still reef safe, and won't block too much more light? Much appreciated!

I use platic bird netting fwiw at home depot or mclendons. It still goes in the window screen kits they sell their too.
Get a spline tool and the black rubber spline. See if they have a size u think would work.

No, nothing like that. Here is a photo. It comes on big rolls like fabric.

I used mosquito netting from a local fabric store for $1 per yard and some 1.5" strips of 6mm acrylic to make my lids.

Hi, where did you get the acrylic frame pieces, did you just have a local shop fabricate?

I have several 24"x48" pieces of 6mm acrylic left over from another project. Then I used a table saw and router to cut the strips as desired. Though I'm sure a local shop could make exactly what you want.
