NEED HELP NOW

My birdsnest looks really bad. I’ve had this guy for a week and a half and he never really opened. The top of its tips began to peel and everyone said it was because my wave maker was to strong, which was true. Since then I have upgraded to a wave maker suited for my 20 gallon. Yesterday night the coral had not opened and the tips were still white, but it didn’t have this giant white side until I woke up this morning. I have no clue why this his happening. He has high light and pretty good flow. The only animals in my tank are a few hermits and a skunk shrimp. Please I wanna save this guy

Going to need a lot more info about your tank to the folks here to make an assessment. Can you please provide all your tank parameters? Temp, salinity, ph, ammonia, nitrates, phosphates at least .

You'll definitely need to post your parameters, light you're using etc. Without that all I can say is I would pull it off the top of the rock and place it somewhere in lower flow to reduce some stress.

So I don’t have my own things to test anything other than my salinity which was a perfect. However yesterday when I went in to my local store, I had them test my water and everything was perfect. Not sure the exact numbers though.

My salinity is Perfect and I had my water tested in my local store yesterday and they said everything was looking perfect. All my other corals are doing fantastic. However I guess it’s worth mentioning that about 5 days ago I came back from a 4 day trip where the tank was in a total blackout

I'm not sure what you tell you - if you don't provide solid information about your tank you're not going to get solid solutions for your problem.

We might have different ideas of what perfect salinity is, so it's best you tell us exactly what number you have.

What does total blackout mean? The light was off or the entire system was down?

In future your should really record your water parameters. Because they might be perfect now, but if they had a large swing a few days ago the swing itself can cause a lot of harm.

It looks like rtn - rapid tissue necrosis. Its unknown exactly what causes it, the common thought is that it is related to fluctuating parameters, usually fluctuating alkalinity. Alk is the most important parameters for stoney corals, especially sps corals.

I would suggest to frag off a couple of healthy pieces and glue them down elsewhere, hopefully they can pull through. If you do nothing, it will be completely white by tomorrow morning.

Get Hanna, salifert, etc. Anything other than API when you buy test kits.

I know you said you dont have the necessary items to test your own water and you went to your LFS, when you have your water tested by them i would write down all of the numbers they tell you somewhere so you can compare your numbers as time goes on. Don't just take their word for it, I would hate for your tank to unexpectedly crash. As for the birdsnest I dont know exactly what could be the issue without parameters but I agree with lowering it to the bottom somewhere. Maybe you can go get a quick test done and come back with the numbers?
