I guess somehow I damaged the motor, but I heard no arc or saw any sparks to indicate I had an issue, so idk.
I don’t see how you could have damaged it. The motor is designed to take voltage across its two terminals. Even a downstream direct short shouldn’t have any effect. You should get a ver low resistance reading across the windings.

After I sent the post early this morning, I watched the video series on building the stirrer by hand and when it came to the part about the motor it was mentioned the blue wire was not used, and I remembered seeing my unit that it was the blue wire that was used and the red was cut down short.

So I thought I wonder if this is my problem, and went out and re do the wiring using the red and it came on. Then when I went back to using the blue it worked too, so I see now that the different color wire must be for polarity and just changes the direction that the motor spins,

Well, I thought ok it’s working fine. I then wired it back up with my quick disconnect tested it and it worked. I added the heat wrap around the cut wires and plugged it in and nothing. It stopped again! I don’t know why it’s stopping, or when it does, it won’t turn until I remove the wires and reverse the blue and red.

Confirmed…

I removed the quick disconnect splice and hooked the cable back up directly to the motor. It initially didn’t come on, so I reversed the red and blue wires, then it came on. Went back to using blue, and it worked again as well.

So something with the heat wrap step overloads this motor and not sure why reversing polarity is making it work again.
