Ok, I have a 40 gallon breeder tank. I'm wanting a reef tank. I was going to use a 30 gallon tank, then on Craigslist I found a aquarium life support trickle filter for 25.00. I was wondering if I could use the trickle filter with the 30 gallon sump. Or would that just be to much.

Generally speaking, trickle filters are not wanted on Reef systems, they tend to run into to many Nitrate problems down the road. But, if you were to remove the media, you would be quite fine using that as a sump. Theres no need to run the trickle filter and a sump.
