Hi everyone! I’m planning to upgrade to a bigger tank soon, likely one with a sump instead of an all-in-one (AIO) system. A few weeks ago, my girlfriend gave me an automatic fleece roller as a gift. Since it’s practically new and I’d like to keep using it, I’m hoping to incorporate it into the sump setup (otherwise I’m going for a bigger AIO with the same sock chamber dimensions).

The thing is, I’ve never worked with a sump before, so I’m not sure if this would be possible. Could anyone let me know if it can be done? And if so, could someone explain how I could set it up?

I mean you could - won’t be efficient as a bigger tank needs a bigger fleece roller

My suggestion is keep both tanks :)
Yes the tank won’t be much bigger. Going from a 15 to a 35G. I wish I could keep both tanks but me and my girlfriend are moving in together so space is limited…

Check the product description of the fleece roller. That will tell you the max gallons per hour that the fleece roller can accommodate. This should be your starting point. As long as the drain GPH of your new tank is equal to or less than the max GPH the fleece roller can handle you should be fine. If your new tanks drain is larger than what the fleece roller can handle you may have filter issues.

As far as how to make it work. I would get flexible tubing as your drain line. From there just place the roller into a location in your future sump where the flexible drain line can feed the fleece roller.
