I’ve built my own acrylic tank and overflow (build thread in this section), but I think I made the overflow a little too low. The bottom of the “teeth” (the lowest point, where the water will flow in) is 3” below the top of the tank. The tank itself is 18” high, so that means the water level will only be 15” high. I feel like it should be about 1” to 1.5” higher.
So, before I buy more acrylic and remake the overflow, does anyone have any ideas about how I might add an inch or so to the existing one?

You could make another piece with tongue slots that fits into the existing overflow, and in theory if you silicone it in place it shouldn't be that visible. If you are going to make another one, I might make the "comb" slots a bit narrower.

An “insert” like that is the only thing I could think of, I just do t know how it would look. Those slots are 1/2” wide by 1” tall. What would you recommend for a better size?

Slot size? 3/16" to 1/4" max. 1" height is fine.
