Sorry for your loss. My wife and I get very upset when we lose a fish or coral. It really bothers us. We take it very personal and try to read all we can and get the best advice we can so it doesn't happen again. We name everything in the tank and consider them part of our family. Then it still happens again. It seems like that is part of the hobby that people typically do not talk about. Hope you feel better today.
From reading your posts, I feel like you do a great job and care about the animals in your tank.

Thank you...I do very much. Almost everyone has names...and sometimes I think I care too much. I guess it's better than not caring at all, huh?

I think Picard would be better with reef tanks. He takes good care of his lion fish.

I'm sorry you're feeling down, but I get that way too if I lose something. I so love getting a new goodie for our tank, and then when something bad happens I'm just crushed. We have a lot of time and $$ invested into out tank, and certainly don't have money to just throw around, so losing something hurts and sometimes I think "dang, I just keep failing, maybe I should just quit this hobby". Then something great will happen (that super picky monti FINALLY starts growing, or the rose BTA splits AGAIN, etc) and I'll feel better about things. I started with a 55 back in 2002. I did a few things right, and a LOT of things wrong, but I learned from mistakes and kept going. If you can, I'd certainly move to the bigger size. Swings in chemistry are much less traumatic and I think you'll have a much better experience.

Eienna, my wife cries like her dog died (almost) when we lose a coral. We haven't lost a fish in years. Thank God, because I'd probably have to pay for a casket and funeral. It seems you have answered your own question. The smallest tank I've ever had was a 55 until recently. Now, I'm dealing with 10 gal tanks and 1 gal tanks breeding shrimp. The smaller tanks fluctuate parameters quickly and require constant supervision. I'm always trying to talk new people in the hobby to start with a bigger tank. I wish you the best of luck.

I had a good friend that got me started with a 75 main display and a 55 refugium and its has saved me more than I can say. So when I added a 34 solana to my collection it was easy because I had learned the 5 key very well.
But I learned that we can't be like Capt Ahab hunting the White Whale but more like Capt Kirk and enjoy the uncharted territory and stay away from the green women and men haha.

Kirk never stayed away from the green women... he was all about them.

That's great to hear:). That's why the forum is also a community that takes care of one another and supports during the rough times and begs for frags during the good ones :). As said earlier please keep us updated on the progress WITH PHOTOS and always ask that why we're all here. Take care.

I have come to a decision...and oddly enough, Mom's supporting it. O.o

I believe I have gotten past my limit for the number of tanks I can handle at one time. I hate to lose them, especially Kirby the green spotted puffer, but I'm tearing down the FO 29g. None of the fish except my molly, the tank boss, is reef-safe, so they will be sold. I would like to sell them as a set because they get on so well; they have a workable hierarchy figured out. I'm also going to sell the bad 125 as a project tank for reptiles or somesuch. I think it would be a terrific tank for a semi-arboreal snake! Then, I'll pull the unused 50g out of storage and move my reef to it, adding the equipment from the 29g and turning the 20g into a refugium. It'll go in the living room where everyone can see it, and it'll be more stable meaning less stress for me and most likely fewer coral-killing 'oops' events. :D

My hubby's mad at me because he wants to keep Nemo in the bedroom. I try to give him what he wants but in this case I have to say no. Hoping he gets over it soon -.-;

So that's the plan. I'll only have to keep track of three tanks instead of four, and only one of those will be SW. Sounds good to me. :)
