Well I’m on the lookout for black wine label guard now... lol
just put one layer on, hopefully if the nem decides to go for a float he’ll bounce off....
What do you guys think?

I saw that one but the mesh is too big...
 
The mesh looks too open to me. I'd build a cylinder out of plastic gutter guard, old filter sock rims and zip ties. This way you can make it an inch or so bigger than the powerhead preventing it from getting stuck and slowly sucked in. The problem isn't so much the guard, it's the suction it can't overcome. All my opinion of course.
