First coral was a good sized nephthea, pink in color. Placed where it gets medium flow and medium light. It opens up brilliantly then, for no apparent reason, closes really tightly. First few days it was open in the mornings until mid-afternoon. I figured it needed a nap. Now, a few days later, the opening and closing is completely random. Help? Advice please.

Could be anything from water parameters to fish to hermits crawling on it, water flow, etc. They do close at times so it could be nothing to worry about. They aren't open 24/7 everyday.

My leathers close up all the time from unknown reasons. Sometimes when the light changes suddenly, somtimes flow, sometimes other animals, sometimes to shed. Sometimes because I put my hand in the tank or was messing around in there. I would not worry much. These guys are very hardy and can close up a long time without issue.
