I have the Trident monitoring my water, however I have not been using the automatic dosing system. I am wondering if people have found it to work accurately and would recommend it.

The problem I have with my Trident is it gets inaccurate towards the end of the reagent bottles. I also find once I have my dosing schedule set it doesn't change enough for me to think about letting the Trident take over. The risks don't outweigh the reward here.

This^ The trident varies some, it is going to constantly be adjusting and playing catchup to the last test result creating more instability than it will solve. This is especially true if the trident is pulling the sample anywhere near where you are dosing or if the DOS is currently dosing or in between doses at the time of testing.

I tried it at first but found that it ended up chasing its own tail and parameters got out of whack. I now manually adjust my DOSes according to Tridents (2 Tridents 3 DOS) results as often as required.

I guard-band a calcium reactor (with different pH set points) depending on the ranges reported by the Trident. I mostly stay mid-band, but there are legit cases where not producing or adding more melt have kept parameters from drifting out of line.

I'm on my second Trident as the original has become very inconsistent. I need to break it all down and check/clean it to see if its still stable.

The Trident is great as a convenience factor and for monitoring the general parameters of your reef. In theory it should be great for running your dosing schedule.

In practice, it is not accurate and consistent enough to where I would trust it to run a dosing program for me. It's a little too fiddly, and as others have said it can fall out of calibration when the reagents start running low. I usually calibrate mine (using the tank calibration method) about every 3-4 months, or whenever there's a big disparity between my Hanna checker and my Trident.
