I bought a second hand ATK without the float switch.

Everything else seems to be fine. In addition to adding a MOS in my ATO reservoir, should I add an additional MOS at a higher threshold as another killswitch in case the first optical fails/

Also can I even run this without the float switch

Assuming you mean the float valve? I don't think it has an actual float switch - just 2 opticals and the float valve (that you don't have). It's a nice extra failsafe, but you don't NEED it - just make sure you have when statement on your ATO pump outlet so it will turn off after x amount of time and not retrigger unless you move the slider back to Auto.
