Nessarius or whelk?

Hi all! Reading through the forums I am beginning to question which type of snails I have.

A few behavioral notes... They never burrow into the substrate however I have crushed coral and just assumed it was too rough for them. They have plates on their tails. They sleep in the rocks during the day. I added a clam about a month ago and the first night I went to check on it after a few hours of lights out and the Snails had devoured it.

All of those things lead me to believe whelk but they were sold to me as nessarius.

Does this picture help anyone? I can take more in the morning. I've been meaning to post about this but never remember to until now...

Thanks guys. Glad I didn't get another clam yet! I do want to keep this one because of the bivalve growing on him.

Karma that he's got lunch growing on his back, always just our of reach!
