New 240g build

So we are starting to get ready to build a stand for our new 240g tank. Just a little bit nervous about it but my husband thinks he can build a stand. We will be getting the tank and sump and skimmer from the previous owner as it is a great set up. He has it built in the wall so thus.... no stand. We bought the lumber and now to start the work. We will be getting the tank some time in October. I am so excited. I have ordered two wp 40 circulation wave makers and hope they do the job! I do have questions about the lighting we will be needing to purchase. I want to go LED's but don't want to spend a fortune. Also not sure of how many to get. I know they don't come in 96in lengths. I currently have a 120gmixed reef tank and found this one through my local reef club and of course you always need to go bigger right! So we jumped on the opportunity. I will be posting pictures as we progress. Any thoughts and ideas for the lights would be greatly appreciated.

The gen1 ecotech radions are a good scoop if you buy new/used. As for the stand there's great builds but ill post a good plan for you if I may. These are the plans I used for my 240 build. Congrats and good luck.

got the staining all done and the tank in the house. Moved the tank from Maricopa to my house and the guy we hired to move the tank thinks we need to reinforce the stand. So for now the tank just sits on the stand with no water waiting to buy some more wood to reinforce the stand. :squigglemouth: I want it done right so no water for now boooo. Better to do it now than to have to come home with 240g of water on the floor.

Got some more staining on the stand today and got the tank all cleaned out. Ordered the return pump today and the salt and sand. Hopefully we will be able to get some water in it soon.

Dimensional lumber has incredible compressive strength, really, but I would second the moving guy - stand needs to be reinforced. Two-hundred and forty gallons of salt water weighs over a ton, alone. Following along. Can't wait for more pics.

Looks like you need vertical 2x4's between the horizontal 2x4's. the horizontal 2x4 would sandwich a vertical one. 2 more at each corner and one more at each horizontal brace. The 2x4's should be supporting the weight. Not the screws. My 120g stand.

I got the pump in the mail yesterday and reinforcement boards polyurethaned just need a little plumbing and we will check the water. Yay.

Slowly putting water in the tank today. Why is it when you don't need the water it goes so quickly and when you want it fast it goes so slow?

been really bad at this thread had a bad water change and been fighting dinoflagellates. Sure wish there was an easy way to fix this. Slow and steady win the race.....
