New Acro Status

So I've had this acro about a week and a half. Fragger said mother colony likes heavy light and heavy flow, which is fine by me, and I've tried to give it that.

Some others I got at the same time have already started growing. This one has not yet, but I know it might be a while more.

However, it is somewhat browner than I think it was a few days ago, which is cause for concern. I also don't like that white spot which suddenly appeared.

And I don't like this, Which I picked off the base a little bit ago. ;Rage

I would run it in a dip. Most of my frags color down when they enter my system and when they get happy they start to color up. But I dip pretty hard also

Yeah, I dipped it in coral rx when I got it. But I think I’m going to dip it again, bc of the apparent flatworm problem.

I may cut it off the original plug, and put it on a new plug

I think he's concerned about the white patch being flatworms.

What he picked off i can't id. Looks like a amphipod though

SB seems to be right. It looked just like the white one on Melev’s page. Phew!!!;Nurse (Unfortunately I took it out of the tank and let it dry last night :().

Yeah, I was just concerned that the white patch might be something eating it, or bleaching.

That's not a flatworm, definitely a chiton, which is harmless. That whitish spot though is suspicious. I would definitely dip it and see if anything comes off. Usually though AEFW are more brown in color and very difficult to see on the coral itself because it tends to blend in with the color of the coral (by digesting it's pigments and incorporating them into it's skin).

Don't want to hijack the thread - a friend made it for me 20"x20"x6" with internal overflow chamber for carbon, heater and MJ900 return pump.

Leishman, you got me. :) I didn't want to publicly cast the remotest suspicion on you, (especially when it comes to potential bugs; that being said the chiton identification makes me far less worried about that. I may very well have chitons too, for all I know. I am a bit upset that I killed it), and was going to PM you now at lunchtime. Especially since i have your screen name now. :)

I am overall quite happy with the frag, and think this may be just normal acclimation. I am putting it under an LED (Kessil 360, which goes up to 100% or about 300 PAR for a few hours around midday) with a good amount of water flow (especially at midday). I remember you said it was under metal halides and/or T5s; I've done some research online suggesting that moving from those to LEDs can cause corals to brown for a bit.

The main thing I'm concerned about is the white spot, but I'm just monitoring that for now; maybe it's just a little bleaching.

Given that the thing was a chiton not a flatworm, I'm hesitant to dip the frag in CoralRx again, and am right now inclined to just let the coral wait things out.
