This is my first post in quite a while. I have a build thread which I will update or start new as I go along. But before any build can start, I have questions as things have most likely changed and or improved since I last had a tank.

If you were to start from scratch, what would you do or do differently? My build will be a 240 gallon and it is basically getting a room built around it. So any outlets can be placed wherever. Water lines, where needed. So what would you want in a dedicated tank room?

I would give myself a massive area on at least 3 sides of the tank for maintenance (and definitely both long sides). I'd also set up a clear water change area

Water change station. I had thought of that, but not dealing with the old water till you posted. This is part of a whole basement remodel, so there will be concrete cut out, meaning I could cut a little more and add a drain.

I get borderline enraged with envy when I think of people who have wide open poorly insulated concrete slab basements with an open grate drain. Literally a requirement if I ever move

Currently there are two, but opposite end of the basement. Plus they back up ONLY when the tub is used, so they need some work. Adding a kitchenette and a bathroom, so drain work already needs done. What’s one more?

This will be a SLOW build as the basement comes together at the same time, but I did get the stand and tank on it. Needs cleaned again for sure, but it in place!
