New Clam

I have a question as I have a new Maxima clam as well. I have him high on the rocks and he has attached his foot in about 24 hours. This is a good sign correct?

I feel like he should be opened a bit more BUT when something goes above him he closes a fair amount.

Par is likely around 250 where is is at and I am slowly bumping my tank up to try and get him above 300

And response to stimuli from above is a good sign too.

Another good sign would be new shell growth along the mantle.

ill see if I can grab some pics tomorrow lights are turning off in 9 minutes lol.

But I did inspect him and scrubbed his shell. I took a vermatid off him and that was it basically

You can probably get a better picture with just a flashlight after lights off. The new white shells and the algae dyed shells should be clear anyways in any light. But sounds good

I think it’s a BIT concerning, but I think it should do fine with proper care

Yea no worries man.

I got a similar situation going on. It attached within 24 hours of me putting it on the rocks and closes when there is a shadow over it

Okay ill keep raising my lighting slowly to get higher par thats the highest place in my tank also he just arrived as well. This is second night in my tank

250 par is plenty for a larger clam, though I don't think there's any harm in trying to get it under more PAR.

Mine has lived at 250 par for basically its entire life. This is it shortly after I got it, back in Sept 2020 (picture is from November, please ignore the awful cyano:

And here it is as of two days ago:

Still in basically the same spot, I did build a platform for it out of rock rubble after its attachment point got buried in sand. It was somewhere around 2" long when I got it, it's now something like 8" long.
