I just put a firefish in my new tank. It's been 24 hours and he has not left the hole that he stuffed himself into. I expected this. I've check a couple times to make sure he's alive, but aside from that I'm leaving him alone. I want him to get used to a daily feeding but don't want to stress him out. Fortunately my tank has a bountiful amount of copepods that I started breeding before getting this fish for many reasons one being this very scenario... Will copepods be enough to sustain him for the next week or two if I just leave him be? Any advice is appreciated!

Feed the tank on a normal schedule. Fish learn feeding schedules very quickly and it will come out when it’s hungry. It’s. Dry normal for fish to not eat the first 1-2 days.

By the way, Firefish like to completely hide their bodies to feel safe , if you can always see it, it might be a sign it doesn’t have enough rock to hide in.

My purple firefish hides in a hole all day and only comes out a few times a week when I feed frozen food. Previously it hid for three months or more so I thought he was dead. He has disappeared for months on several occasions.

My fire fish hid for the first 2 days ,on day 3 I feed some mysis shrimp and he came right out, within seconds of feeding.I'd like to think it was the tasty shrimp !!

Hiding is normal, they are very skittish, and while the one I have took some time to settle in and then roamed the tank as the other fish would (always first to run away, though), it eventually started hiding during the day again (doesn't want to deal with the wrasse), so it literally lives under the rocks all day and night except for feeding time where it comes out and swims around.

I have three fire fish in my 75 gallon. For the last two or three months I thought I had two and that one had perished, but doing some maintenance and rockwork rearranging the other week he was suddenly just out and swimming around. But now he is back to hiding wherever and I haven't seen him in a couple days...
