Hey there,
No answer from me on the fish but as far as power there are a lot of variables. Climate is a huge one. I live in the great white north in a rural area where power outages are common. I don't have a generator so I combat it other ways. When my power goes out I cover the tank in a blanket to insulate it and add a battery powered air stone. You can also get a commercial battery backup for essential systems. I also saw a guy who built a little power box that had a car battery with an inverter that he could bring in to give him a couple hours. FO course nothing is better than a generator fro longer outages.
