Hello and Welcome to R2R! It's unfortunate that you may not be able to dive anymore. When I dove the warm tropical waters I was also fascinated with the colors of the fish and corals. That is what got me involved with the hobby. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Just started my first Reef tank with a Fluva 32.5G. 30+ year scuba diver that recently had a heart event and possibly not able to dive again. My wife and I are bringing the reef to the living room.
We just added our first fish today, a pair of Fancy Clowns and a Royal Gamma. Looking forward to reading all the tips, tricks, and what not to do’s.

Welcome to the community Pete! I'm sorry to hear about your heart issue and scuba diving. If it makes you feel better, I know several people who have had heart issues and still dive. One that comes to mind is a man whose had 3 heart attacks and still dives. I think he went for his instructor dive when he had his third if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if NAUI/PADI has a clause with their certifications about medial (I think I saw something when I did my nitrox cert but I can't remember), but I know if you can no longer dive, that reefing will be an awesome substitute!

Thanks! Yeah it’s a blood thinner issue. I won’t know for sure for likely another year, once they see how much the ole heart decided to recover. As of now, they think I’ll be on thinners long term

I was placed on blood thinners in 2015 due to A-Fib. I've been off of them now for 6 years. Hopefully it won't be long term. Will definitely be praying for you!
