New mandarin with very sunken belly

I got a spotted mandarin shipped to me on thursday with a very sunken belly. Hes staying in one corner of the tank where some mulm is which I am assuming would have decen copepod life as well. I have not seen them pick at anything, breething slightly heavy but what are the chances it survives? Its a 180g well stocked tank with enough copepods that i see them on the glass during the day.

Any hope?

Thats good news. It has a deep V shape with hard corners. Just hope the little guy starts eating and picking at rocks

They tend to eat normal fish food after a while but if you've got loads of pods, I expect they will be first on the menu.

Most Mandarins come in very thin. If your tank has plenty of pods (and even baby snails, which they also eat) the Mandarin will take care of itself. Mine eats spirulina brine and mysis as well, and you can try that over time.

Not hunting around is a bad sign, make sure there aren't any tank mates bothering it and make sure you're not hovering in the area too much (set up a camera if you need.)

If you've got plenty of copepods and it is comfortable enough to eat, it should be fine, but if it's being bothered enough not to settle sufficiently, it won't eat.

A possibility but not a sure thing, there's also a chance you can't do much. There is a point where a fish no longer tries to eat, the only thing that could help it, and to my knowledge, nothing really can be done at that point. Could be a variety of reasons, but there is a limit to how much we can do as well. I hope it starts eating.

It is a very busy tank with tangs but my pink streaks are pretty actively out and about and never picked on.

Its only been a couple days so unsure if he has been picking on stuff but just havent seen. I look at him every few hours he moves around in about a square 1 foot section.

Hopefully hes eating at night. Just kinda strange hes not hiding in the rockwork.

Sly, your fish is very thin and if you have visible PODs and he's not eating that's a very bad sign. These fish hunt by sight and will snatch PODs every few seconds when hungry and so do not feed at all at night and mine sleeps on the sand bottom. I would submit those photos to your supplier and explain the condition and that your tank has loads of PODs. They should have never shipped a fish that thin and should give you a credit if he passes regardless of their warranty policy.

Yea he is just moving only when hermits touch him. I sent my supplier a picture saying I dont think hes gonna make it. Its bright lights and I havent scraped the glass in a couple days and it looks like the glass is moving lol.

I have a feeling based on what ive seen tonight he wont make it 1-2 more days. Nothings picking on him other than hermits bumping him

Only thing that might help is baby brine shrimp. I agree with the others he is probably a goner not pecking and eating is very bad sign. But if you have BBS eggs and/or a way to hatch might not be a bad idea to try. Turkey baste the newly hatched bbs into his area in the display tank or remove him and put him in a QT tank and flood the QT with BBS.

If wild caught not a chance sadly. This fish is too far gone in my opinion. And as stated above, not eating pods when the tank is full of them is the worst part of it. It good at all sadly.

Yeah this is a last ditch fish is gonna die might as well try it sorta thing know what I mean, like why not. If you can get him to eat just one BBS you might save his life.
