New Marineland 60g cube

So here I go...this is a completely different animal then I currently have running;)

First off this system has a sump:)
The tank is drilled the bulk head is on the left...back of the tank is painted black.

Big question hear...why is the overflow so LOUD! Sure would appreciate some help quieting that down.

Anyway ...the tank is a year old and has a Aqueon sump on it with a refugium area .

I am very excited for this new adventure to begin. Once the tank gets wet with saltwater it will need to cycle and then the fun will begin... I will be bringing everything from the 45g into this tank....with of course room for more....:)

Hi, I have the same tank :)
overflow is loud as in like, a gurgling noise? or it it a splashing noise?

Splashing noise....I believe aqueon makes it??

No problem. :)
If it what I think it is, on the elbow for the return line (top elbow where the return nozzles connect) there is most likely a hole in the crease of the elbow. It's an anti siphon hole. I just took a piece of filter sponge and wedged it In between the pipe and overflow wall to absorb the water. Hopefully this helps. If not let us know. We'll get it figured out

I will try that....going to be a few days as I had to drain the tank( had only fresh water in it) sprung a small leak on the return where the hose connects...I need a clamp... no big deal....better now than when it is all set up:)

I am happy to say that the tank is wet,added a clamp, and quiet! Did as you suggested Ryan and it worked like a charm:)

Next question...If I add salt and bring the water temp to the same as the 45g currently running can I move everything over into the new tank right away or does the new tank need to cycle?

All of the live rock etc would go into the new cube and I would hook up the canister as well.

If this were a fresh water tank I would be able to do this no problem ...but not sure on the SW.

Not going to move a thing until I hear from the experts;)

Awesome! Glad it worked :)

Once you put salt into the tank I would wait about 24-48 hours before putting anything living into the tank. Any undisolved salt will burn corals and fish gills. Using already cured Live rock is definitely going to help with the cycle. I would think you would still see a small/short one though. Definitely watch the water perameters. There will probably be some die off and the ammonia will be present.

I'm going to disagree here. The saltwater can definitely be ready in 20 minutes. Depends on the salt and how it's stirred. If it's mixed well and there is no rush, you might as well wait.....if you use your current live rock and it stays in water, there should not be any cycle at all.

This is how I would do it. Fill up the new tank halfway with fresh mixed saltwater( or mix and heat it in the tank,) add some water from the 45 to fill the rest, add the live rock and live stock. Make sure that the new water matches the old water as best as you can.

I would also advise to use new live sand and toss the old.

I love the marineland 60 cube. It's cheap and beautiful. I miss mine but I wanted bigger fish.

The salt was mixed outside the tank, bucket&power head, and then added to the tank....I wondered about the old sand...seems to me there maybe a whole lot of detritus in there:eek:....also a whole lot of beneficial things?

I'm sure there is plenty of good stuff in there but also probably a lot of bad as well.....that's why I recommend new LIVE sand as you will least get some good bacteria with none of the bad....within a few months the sand will be crawling with all kinds of bugs....just make sure the parameters of the new and old water are the same and you should be good to go.....
