Just ordered my first tank in over 15 years so I'm basically a beginner again. Trying to make it easy for myself I've ordered a complete setup.

Does anyone have any advice on it, it there anything obvious I'm missing that I may need, or anything that's particularly useless?

Thank you! I can't wait to get this set up. It will have to wait till the Christmas tree has gone away.

Any recommendations on testing kits to purchase?

Looks like a nice tank. I would try figure out how to get an automatic freshwater top off (ATO) hooked up. Will definitely make things easier on you.

temp and salinity are the two big challenges.

^ like everyone else advise ATO is a must and a temp controller for your heater. Don't want your heater stuck open and have seafood soup. You can purchase used reef keeper lite for under $80.

Would something like this work?

All the equipment goes in the back of this tank, not underneath. I won't know till I get it how I'll have to set it up. Does it need a separate compartment for fresh water?
yes that's the one.
The fresh water sits in a separate container next to or under the stand table etc. as long as the ato pump fits you can use anything thats easy to clean and looks good or funny or is cheap.

yea you may want to wait till you get the tank to be sure it fits in the tank.
