I wasn’t planning on starting a tank journal, but the current giveaway challenge motivated me to start.

I’m relatively new to the hobby. I had a few tanks in high school, but after a long break I’ve begun keeping freshwater again. For the past year, I’ve been focused on planted tanks and have been consuming as much fishtube as I can in my free time.

In the short time that I have been back in the hobby I have been able to turn most of my basement into a fish cave of sorts. I started with a rimless tank on a stainless prep table and things quickly escalated from there. Today I have a the original 30 up, and rack housing a planted 75 and two 40s with that are just for fish (not scraped/planted). I’ll also add that the rack is setup with an auto water changer - really jumped in with both feet. Along with the fish tanks there are several project tanks (daphnia cultures, macro algae pests, etc.)

Now after about six months of research I would like to swap out my 30 rimless display for a 75 gallon reef.

First step is to Begin to shutdown my old tank and make a few of the many many purchases to launch this new project.

As it makes sense I’ll try to post, and I’ll try to keep the subsequent post to short progress updates.

I support your decision to go reef. I am new to the hobby as well. I watched 52 weeks of reefin on BRStv. It's bulk reef supply's YouTube channel. Binge that playlist. It's a great foundation that will guide you through your journey. Good luck!

Putting holes in glass was a nerve racking experience. I haven’t drilled tanks before this project. After asking many questions at the LFS and online I picked up a polarized filter sheet to make sure I wasn’t about to throw away several hundred dollars that used to look like a fish tank.
