Hi Albert and Welcome!

That sounds like a great plan and glad you joined. In my early days, was very successful that same approach. I used canister filters back then. Weekend maintenance consisted of water changes and swapping in cleaned filter ((soaked and dried pleated spare filter), but there are many options now for filter media))
