Hey guys! I am thinking about getting another tang; I already have a hippo tang so I'm nervous there will be aggression. My hippo is probably about 8 inches now and I was considering a mimic elibi but the one at my lfs is fairly small (3 inches) should I risk it? I know I should add a tang almost the same size if not bigger than my current. Has anyone had success adding smaller tangs? I really really love the elibi tang but don't want it to be stressed and bullied for obvious reasons. Any and all comments / experience / advice is welcome

Whoops I thought I put this on the fish discussion thread. Could someone move it when they have a chance please?

Hippo aren't a particularly aggressive tang IMO but they can be.

What size is your tank?

My purple tang actually ignored the little tang I added. The tang that was around his size, that was a different story. So sometimes being small is a good thing. Acclimation containers are a good way to go if you are afraid of real violence also mirrors can be used to distract the aggressor. This is stressful though so be sure that the hippo is healthy.

I have a 125. My hippo is pretty nice and sorta a scary cat so I feel like it can be alright I would just hate for a fish to die, you know?

My hippo is very healthy and has been for months now. I'm thinking small won't be terrible because it'll have more places to hide where the hippo can't reach it

Make few pictures of your new fish then tape to the tank, Hippo will see that every day and he will ignore the new fish later on. Create more hidden place for new fish and introduce fish at night time. Keep those pictures on the tank until everything ok.

I purchased the small elibli tang and my hippo did not care at all that a new fish was in the tank and my hippo is easily 10x bigger than the new guy. The problem is that since it looks similar to an angel fish my coral beauty is not happy. My angel chases the tang every single time it ventures near the rock work. The tang it hanging out under a rock in a tunnel my engineer goby made and abandoned... so fingers crossed my coral beauty gets over itself.
