NEW TANK - day 14... I have growth but what is it?

All my parameters are normal, nitrates aren’t quite 0 but the diatoms showed up day 10 or so and now I have hair algae... I haven’t added anything to the tank. The rock was once live, but sat out for a while in a bucket. I added live sand to sump and tank, and a enzyme starter. There’s chaeto and microblocks, pretty much the sump starter kit from algae barn. Not sure if I should start treating this now or wait it out or get CUC.... any ideas?

Agree, just the tank cycling. Eventually you will hit, what we call, the ugly stage and algae will cover everything. Its just part of the tank cycling.

Yes. Please remember you have started a marathon not a sprint. This was probably the hardest rule for me to learn when just starting out.

Probably my biggest challenge too.... so it takes the whole tank and then just goes away? Do I get CUC or treat it? After this month is over can I get a fish or two.... the anticipation is killing me.

Others might not agree with me but I always buy damsels for cycling tanks. Very hardy very cheep and some are colorful.
