Hello! I just started my Biocube 16 about 8 days ago, and I tested my water today. I am a little confused by the results. I thought the only way to have nitrates was to have nitrites and no ammonia?

I have 20 pounds of live rock, and I used live sand.

Results:
Ph: 8.2-8.3
Ammonia: 0.5ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10ppm

I am only planning on running a couple clown fish, a shrimp, some snails and a few coral/invertebrates.

Am I safe to put a clown fish, and a coral in yet?

If you used live rock and sand, that jump started your cycle. The fact you are getting nitrate means it’s working. Just wait for the ammonia to go to 0, do a 25-50% water change to reduce nitrates and you should be good to go to start adding!
