Hi everyone - starting my first build thread. This is my first salt water tank so open to all recommendations and constructive criticism! I’ve got a 30G - photo attached. I will be adding more rock, just start getting the scape sorted how I want it. I have a HOB aquaclear filter, heater (not placed yet as you can see), light, thermometer. I do not yet have a power head but ordering - what would be the best location? I do plan to have coral later once tank is well established. Should I have two for this size tank?

Going the slow route with dry rock, once I’m done the set up I’ll add ammonia and bacteria starter. Just going to start with a couple of clown fish once done cycling.

Good start so far! I always prefer to have 2 smaller powerheads as opposed to one stronger one. It makes it easier to create a more random chaotic flow pattern, with one you always have a one way linear flow which makes it hard to eliminate all the dead flow spots.

My only criticism is are you absolutely confident in that stand? Those legs look thin.

Do you put the power heads directly across from each other? I know surface breaking is important - one pointing up one pointing more middle/down?

Haha good criticism! It’s actually a 30G tank stand - it’s pretty sturdy! The legs are reinforced lower than the pic shows and on the sides that you can’t see. So hopefully it does it’s job😅

Looks like a good start. Might want to add a little more rock work. It’s fun to use super glue and make a cool overhang or arch.
