Hello fellow reefers

I’m starting a new tank more like the 3rd tank lol. Never done a bare bottom(sand less). The tank is about 120g long (72L, 16H, 24W). I was wondering if any advice on how big of a sump I need. Thanx.

The equipment is gonna be TBD.

Alex,
What equipment do you plan on keeping in the sump determines how big you need it to be.
As a generalization, get as big as will fit under the tank.

5:1 ratio is a general good starting point. I’d personally go as big as you can fit as subsea suggested. The main thing being sure to have a big enough sump to hold all the water in your returns and top of your display if power was lost and the water drained out of your display into the sump.

I’d be sure to add extra media in the sump since you’re going bare bottom. I always have trouble with bare bottom and adding a LOT of extra media helped. So maybe get a larger sump for that?
