Welcome!

Sounds like you are doing the right things already. You don't mention how you are starting your cycle, there are lots of options, and for every option you'll find different opinions. With your research already done, seems like you are on your way! Looking forward to hearing about your future successes
Planning on doing a bacteria dosing (Dr. Tim's) along with a small piece of live rock from reef store tank (as clean as possible). I debated going with 2 clown fish at that point, but, have heard that it might hurt them even if they survive. Instead I was planning on feeding food daily to imaginary fish in hopes it gets things going.

Open to thoughts on that plan if anyone thinks I should do something differently.

Why not add some live plankton or pods or other critters that belong on a reef instead of fish food?

I was thinking as a ammonia source. I could try finding some plankton or pods, but I'm not sure how much ammonia they create. I feel like even if I added them, I would still need a source of nitrogen to start the cycle.
