Hello and Welcome to R2R! Lots of information available. Do a lot of research before buying. Different methods are used between the lighting, water changes, automation etc. After all your research and acquiring your equipment I'm sure you will really enjoy the end product. Well worth it!

I'm very new to the hobby. I have zero equipment or live stock. I'm in the gathering information stage.
One thing I have learned with a reef tank. I did hours upon hours of research. I would say anywhere between 50-100. Even after all that I wasn't able to soak in much of the information and wven forgot about many things. The best way to learn is to just do it. Don't go for perfect parameters. Just go for consistency. I would highly recommend a fuge, because the two best things that have worked for me are tones of copepods and aquaforest life source. I have been able to totally skip the ugly faze while keeping 15+ nitrates.

Also go for pre quarantined fish. All my fish died nearly a month after fully stocking my tank with brook and a bit of whitespot. After going through the trauma of having to watch your fish that you love die. I would have rather spent an extra 20-50$ per fish.
