Some of my current corals and fish.... I want a mixed reef with SPS up top, LPS in the middle glowing around, a giant zoa garden at the bottom, open brains mushrooms toward the bottom. There are exceptions to this master plan obviously like mushrooms and a planned anenome corner for the clownfish(if they cooperate and stay where I put them haha) but this is definitely the master plan. I need a ton of colors and varieties of everything mentioned. And absolutely no PLATING MONTIPORAS!!!

Nice setup.
Awful lot of water in that sump, what happens if the power fails and something blocks your check valve?
blocks it? The point of the check valve is to keep the water upstairs so that it doesn’t overflow in my sump. The check valve is on the return side not the drainage side by the way. So if the power shuts off then the tank water won’t flow back downstairs into the sump. Only problem with my design which is already scheduled to be fixed tomorrow is that the check valve should be downstairs in the garage so that it holds the majority of the water in the return line in the pipe. Currently it’s upstairs which basically allows everything below it flow into the sump. But hindsight is 20/20 so before Saturday that will be fixed . And there is enough space in the sump for the drainage water to flow down when the pump stops during a power outage so as to no overflow. and Even if it WOULD overflow, that’s the whole reason why I put it in the garage in the first place lol

I know what a check valve does. My question and the problem I see is, what happens when the check valve... doesn't.

They are super prone to failure, you will have stuff growing in your pipes, and you will end up with some kind of sponge or snail getting in there, and preventing that valve from closing.

But yeah, at least when it does overflow it's in the garage.

I see where you’re getting at. But how can a snail get through those return lines attached to the bulkheads? They’re like 1/8” thick lol

What’s up reefers. African cichlid guy turned Reefer moved from Compton CA to the Canyon Hills neighborhood of Lake Elsinore CA. I have a 125 display in my loft and a 100 ga sump in my garage plumbed in schedule 80 PVC.
140 lbs live rock. 3 Kessil A360x’s with the spectral controller. 7” diameter filter sock.
Used Eshopps 150 protein skimmer I forgot the name of. Refugium/copepod nursery. Chiller. Auto aqua ATO/AWC w/ 55 gallon drum for salt water reservoir with a pump circulating it. My plan is a ULM sysytem so I keep a close eye on my parameters. So far so good! Glad to be here
