Im about 2months into a brand new triton system. Tank, sump, rock, sand and most equipment all new. I had a lot of fish in a temp tank and had to transfer across as quick as point of sale so used bacteria in a bottle to cycle. Everything has been in the tank and doing well for about a month but my nitrates are almost 100 using salifert test. Cheato has grown 3x in about 3 weeks.
My question is, shouldnt my nitrates be kept in check by the refugium or is it just a case of waiting for it to establish properly?
Nitrates rose from 1ppm - 100ppm over 2 weeks
Also worth noting, i have only been dosing triton acording to my alk tests every day just until alk uptake stabilises.
System
Kessil h380 fuge light
Fuge = just over 10% of tank volume
Cheato= socker ball size
Maxspect aeraqua duo skimmer
System volume = 550L
40kg live rock
No other filter media in sump
1-2 inch sand bed in tank
Above medium bio load in tank
A few corals
Sicce 9.0 sdc running at 90% for approx 10x turnover
