I recently just purchased a yellow watchman (already quarantined) and hes been here for about an hour he still not on the sand bed and he just swimming around in the water column is this normal since he is new?

Ours swims too. A lot.

I’ve never seen mine swim but he hasn’t been in the display that long either. Maybe he’s scoping out a spot. What kind of sand bed do you have? If it’s rather fine try breaking up a rock into little pieces and put in a pile for him.

Do you have a lot of other fish? A goby may go out exploring if it doesn't feel threatened. Also do you have a pistol shrimp for it already? If a shrimp starts making a burrow the goby may head straight for it.

+1 the pistol will give the watchman a job

Just give it some time to settle into its new environment.

I wish mine would get off the sand bed. He literally moved all the sand from the right corner of my tank and filled that entire corner with shells and rocks around where he sleeps. And if a snail or crab gets near his little area hell grab em by the snail and fling them across the tank.

He spends his days moving sand from that corner and collecting stuff lol
