I bought a Nikon D7000 last year on a whim and have ZERO knowledge of photography. I am good at figuring things out but this thing is crazy! Any suggested settings for getting some good reef shots? I have been putting it on auto and doing the point and shoot thing and messing with the focus a bit.

Learn the basics of photography and you will be able to get really good shots of your reed. Once you learn the balance between ISO, Aperature (the f number), and shutter speed as well as how white balancing and lighting temperature correction works - you will get amazing shots.

Once you learn the basics, head over to the r2r photography forum and learn all the little tricks. Without the basics of photography, all the little tricks will get you better shots, but you won't get anything amazing until you learn the basics. BTW the d7000 is an awesome camera!
