Nikon or Canon

I own a canon 30D for about 4 years. Its a very nice camera. My cousin is a professional photographer, thats what he had so I leaned in that direction. Well ......... he has now swapped to a Nikon he said it is a lot
better in low light conditions. You almost have to know what you are going to be shooting to know what to get.

Hey all I am in the process of buyin a camera but don't know which one to get its between the Canon eos rebel xti with stock 18-55 lens or a Nikon D60 with upgraded 55-200 lens. Anyone with knowledge or experience with ither camera if you could please chimme in and let me know what your choice would be and why .Thanks for all who reply

I use a d60 with an 18-55 lens and I get great pictures with it, white balance is easy to set so I get really good shots in the tank with it

You tube has taught me every thing about photography pretty much. I read a few books on it aswell, a friend of mine went to college for photography,and I got her books,but Im not advanced enough to use half of the stuff in the book!haha!

Nikon fever here, I have a d90 with various lens' but like the tamron 90mm for macro shots cause it gives a blurring affect around the edges.
Also have a 3100 for more of everyday use both are great camera's but the d90 is easier for me to use for macro shots mostly cause I have had it for a little while now and am used to it. The 3100 is newer so still getting used to it, the d90 has alot more manual settings and since I shoot full manual I like the d90 better but the 3100 is a great camera for like taking to the shed or museum, etc. So it kinda depends what you want to do with it?
Bottom line is canon and nikon both make great cameras and it's the person that's snapping the photo that makes the difference, you'll have some homework to do like any hobby to take nice pic's.
Also if you already have glass (lens') that's what you stick with in general, the glass is the most expensive part of photography so most pick one brand and stick with it.
Also don't skimp on the tripod, you can get a nice tripod in the 150-200 range that work nicely.
One thing to keep in mind, if you think reef'n is expensive you ain't seen nothin lol!
You can easily drop over a grand just on 1 lens

The long and short of it is there isn't a wrong choice. Both brands offer similar quality lenses. I shoot Canon but that is just because at the time Canon's line of SLRs were a little newer. Both brands will go through that as they compete and release new bodies. My advice would be to pick a brand and spend as much as you can on the lenses, a quality lens will last you a long time while the bodies are doubling in specs every few years. You would be doing much better to spend 1500 on a lens and 600 on a body than a 2400 dollar full frame 5d mk 2 and a 400 dollar lens. The low ligh capability and sharpness of a 2.8f L lens will make a rebel look better than a 5d with a kit lens everytime!
