So was racking my brain why a few acros were showing some STN and burnt tips. Most everything looks great minus 3-4 pieces (all colonies): PC Rainbow, Oregon Tort, and Tricolor Valida. Was really racking my brain because Alk, Ca, Mg, NO3 and PO4 have been super stable.

I cross check my Tridents against Hannas every 2 weeks and haven’t noticed any issues in the past. Well checked today and Hanna’s nitrate value is 46.9 ppm. I’m going to run a couple more checks. I’m really not sure how this tank has that level of nitrates. It’s a 70 gallon tank with 3 fish - two clowns and a six line. Feeding is super minimal maybe once every day - pellets.

Recommended course of action? Consecutive water changes? I’ve got an automated filter roller I could install to try and collect more particulate?

Were multiple Hanna tests 49? Sounds like a testing error.

I’d look elsewhere for the coral issue.

I P test, stray voltage, something sprayed near the tank recently etc.

Im going to run some more tests before I commit to a path. The result just doesn’t align.

The only other change I made was about a month ago I bumped my peak daytime blues and whites from 30% to 35%. Tank runs on 3 x Knoopsyche K7 Pros. I can’t imagine a 5% change causes issues like that, but certainly possible.

I can assure you pigs will fly before a 5% lighting bump triples your nitrates.

Oh I know it isn’t impacting nitrates. I meant it could have been the issues for the burnt tips.

Well why not? It’s a sudden 5% bump across 8-10 hours or however long your light cycle is. Also, I’m assuming these colonies are the highest up and their tips would be the newest/most-fragile growth and see the most targeted effect from the increased light.

I only bumped it 5% for the peak light window which is from 1300-1600. So not the full photo period. One of the impacted pieces was in the top 3rd, however the other two were bottom third. I really don’t think it’s lighting related. All other acros seem unaffected.
