Im still having iodine issues….? For some reason my iodine is about 3 times the ideal value, it has come down a little. I have two ICP test linked. Im very stumped on where the iodine is coming from. I feed either Mermaids Delight or LRS Reef Frenzy mixed with Reef Roids periodically, and about 1/4 sheet of nori. I also use Tropic Marin Pro salt, AFR and Captiv8 traces-custom made off ICP testing. In addition, i use Two Little Fishies Acro Power, but was using Brightwell’s Restore. This tank struggles with nitrates so i dose 2 mils of Neo Nitrate daily.

My iodine has tested 184 this last ICP, which is better, I think it was around 250 or so the previous ICP. Im just very confused on why my iodine is so high? I dont dose it, I’ve changed my nori and started to feed less. I also do not let the clip sit in the tank anymore. I have a tort that is struggling with STN- from the inside and base, but it’s starting to creep onto the branches. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Question: should i be concerned with the value of iodine? I’ve read posts where tanks had much higher iodine levels seemingly without any issues aside from color. As most acro keepers, my coloration could always be better.

For flow, I’m running an MP40 and 2 MP10s in a 50 gallon.

As you decreased feeding nori the Iodine did decrease, that may be the source.

When do you collect your ICP sample?
I tend to collect early in the morning before anything gets into the tank including hands. I observed that if I collected sample later in the day I ended up with all kinds of bizarre results. May have been coincidence but I suspect some of the food etc… contaminated the sample.

Good luck,

Thanks for the input. I took this sample mid morning before feeding nori.
