I’ve been dealing with bad hair algae and my corals closing.

Did a icp test and noticed I had almost no Po4 and 0 NO3. I also weekly water changes so that’s probably a problem

Since then I’ve been doing 3 things.

1.Dose small amounts of neo nitro

2. Improve from feeding once a day to twice

3. Feed benepets twice a week

When I tell you I’m only on my 3rd day of this regime and I can literally see my hair algae turning brown and dying!!!!!!! It just falls off now if I blow at it. On top of that I’ve seen corals that I thought were finished extend polyps!!!!

Who knew nitrates and feeding more could actually help me.

Once I get my tank to .05 phosphate and 10nitrate I’ll slow down and just feed twice daily and do my weekly water changes and relax

Glad to see you were able to fix your nitrate issues!

Feed more. Do you only eat once a day?
Pic of your system, size? Feed your fish more is all you really need. Reduce WC to every 2 weeks or longer. I do 5% once a month.
I feed all my systems 4-5 times a day. There is plenty of no3 and po4 in fish food. Nothing more is really needed.

Yeah I’m about 1.5 years into the hobby and I was so worried about messing up that I over cleaned and almost bottomed out my nutrients. And you are correct my fish deserve to eat 2 times atleast a day. I kinda feel bad about it but atleast it’s fixed now. I actually do want to go to 3 but I will take this slow before I make new problems. And yes I’ve been told move to every other week WC. So I will start that this week as well sir!

Also it’s a 40 gal breeder

lol and my fish are happy because of this. Now that I’m feeding them twice a day I can’t go back to once. They seem so happy

Don't feel bad, I worked at a lfs for 12 years and have had tanks continously for 30 and I recently struggled with low NO3. It happens but I am happy that you have been able to remedy it so quickly and that it is a pretty easy fix. 😃

What’s your thoughts on the way LFSs treat beta fish? I feel so bad they are in such small cups
