Hello all, so I just recently ran out of salt and my mix only gave me enough to make 5Gallons at 1.023. If I add this to my main display that’s currently at 1.025 will it being my salinity down drastically or just by 0.1 or so. Any advise will help I won’t have salt until Saturday/Sunday. So I kinda need to do this change ASAP.

How many gallons is the display (total system)?

If theres a big box store near buy could always pick up a small bag of io and bring up the salinity to your 1.025. Only need like 60-70 grams. Other option let the 5 gallons evaporate a little till at 1.025

Why do you need to do a water change right now? Why not wait until the salt arrives.

You should always have extra salt. Never know when you need it. I keep 50 gallons pre mixed, then have 2 buckets of salt. I ran through alot of salt and learned to have alot extra. Let the water evaporate then add it. Like said above.

You wont hurt your total salinity by much if you replaced 5 gals with 1.023. You'd be at
1.0247 for a 36 gal total water system

Really depends on the total volume of your system. If its a 10 gallon total system then the math would state the new water would drop your SG by .001 if you take out 5 gallons and replace with this new water.
effectively making it .024

If your system is considerably larger, say 40-50 gallons then I would say that you will see no appreciable change at all?

If you are using it for top off then it will eventually raise your SG to unacceptable levels.

I agree with everyone above.

Best quick solution if you just have to do a WC. Grab some salt locally and adjust WC.

Nitrates of 30-40 shouldn't harm anything. Not ideal but typically not problematic. So waiting isn't a huge deal for that reason.

Or just go ahead and change it. With what you have. The salinity adjustment is going to be so minute it won't matter. Then top off with salt water to compensate evaporation back to desired salinity once you have your salt.
