Indeed. For example: can turn if flow in the tank and that will increase polyp extension due to an increased need for respiration.
Indeed. Same reason they look great straight out the bag on import as well, they’re actually just trying to respire. Turning the flow off for or isolating frags for big PE is a sellers tactic as well.

Do you have any Acropora that are known big PE ones, how are they?
Yea no issues with the rest fortunately

Ah that might explain it, I have crazy flow in my tank
I have tons of flow. Lots of PE too.

5 lft tank -- 2x mp60s, 2x sow20s, 2x gyre x350s, 1x no name (1/2 sow20 sized).

I’m thinking the same due to my high lighting setup
I have tons of light (spread and par)

2x reefbreeders 50v2+ @ 100%
2x or3 light bars
2x A8se @25% (ramping up slowly)

Par @ top is around 5-600. Sand bed is 200. 30" deep tank.

While I agree that lower flow can sometimes bring out PE, not having it at night is a strong signal of a problem. Red/white/black bugs are VERY much everywhere these days. Imo you need to rule this out. Surprised it hasn't been asked, when did you last do an icp? I'd be looking for pollutants and then mainly at the more important trace to see if those are dialed in.
