No such thing as an orange torch?

I was talking to a local torch dealer who I respect quite a bit, and he is adamant that no orange-tinted torch actually stay that way. I was considering one for the torch garden but he said is his experience within 4-6 months they end up becoming more gold if anything. Does anyone have any experience with this / could say whether or not this is true?

You'd probably need to post a picture of said torch in question. I have an Indo orange-tipped torch that's still like that 6+ months after I got it, but one could also argue that the tips are pinkish-orange.

I don't have a specific one in mind per se- I think I'd seen some labeled "tiger torches" or something like that where the majority of the coral was orange with different colored tips, but can't recall for sure. I'm mostly just looking to add some color variety to the torch garden, but not looking to get another gold when I'm intending to get something different!

Actually just noticed this one in the live sale- it looks awesome, but would it fade to yellow? Never heard this until today but figured it might be worth asking

yea, I wouldn't call this one orange. More gold or even brown gold. here is a picture next to dragon soul, which is gold/yellow

Interesting, so in person it seems it might just be less intense of a yellow? Maybe that's what he meant to be fair

Blazing bananas is a little darker yellow, kind of hitting the almost orange color.

Corals do lose colors, so its not unheard of. I have had this torch in my tank for about 4 months and I haven't had any colors fade. Generally if you buy something that is aquacultured, the chances of it losing its color (as long as your parameters are in line) are pretty low. Wild on the other hand, anything can happen as it is acclimating to captivity.

My advice to you, is to find a local reefer that has a few of those torches, so you can see in person and compare. Then when you decide to buy, I personally would buy either aquacultured or from another hobbyist. The dragon soul in my picture was bought from a local reefer and has been absolutely thriving. It went from 1 to two heads and is in the process of splitting again. Again not losing any colors since Ive gotten it
