Hey all. I just got an XR30 pro, and am going to use it over a frag tank, where I can raise it as high as I want.

I like to keep things simple. I don't use controllers except for temperature.

Is there anything really wrong with staying in basic mode and turning the light off and on with a regular timer?
I would put it to 12K (which apparently is all channels 100% and it makes the double-beep) and raise the light as needed.

Or will some custom setting magically grow corals twice as good?

Plenty of reefers run all channels at 100%, height will be the determination to ensure a solid blend.

How big is the tank and how many Radions were you planning?

There is no magical setting, but IMO it makes sense to use a device with all it's options.
You don't need to buy anything to setup a ESL account and set up a program and use the timing that's built in.
There are multiple pre-made programs you can use, so it is simple.
Once setup you don't need to do anything else. It runs by itself with no other actions needed.

There is nothing wrong with doing what you suggest, but it was a waste of money, because a plain black box would do the same.

You are saying the only difference between this and a black box is that it has a timer and is more adjustable? I certainly hope that isn't the case.

Speaking of a waste of money though- isn't running the thing at less than 100% sort of that? :)

There's more to it than that. I was just being fairly vague.
But leds are leds.
Some boxes have more and some have more colors.

Why you wouldn't take advantage of all that's there?
It ain't that hard.

For what you are saying you want to do, a black box would be cheaper.

As far as the 100% thing.
IDK, I got a V8 in my truck, but I don't run around with the gas pedal down all the way.

Other than the convenience of the timer, I'm not seeing a compelling reason.

But I probably will set it up just so I understand it.
Maybe I should have done that before making a dumb thread like this! :p

I've been told that no question is dumb if something is learned from it.

While using the pre set programs you can fine tune the colors.
Get a ramp up light program from dawn to full daylight, then back down to dusk, and even moon lights if you like.

And now if you have troubles getting the program to work you know who to tag, to back up his " It's easy" comment.
lol
