Normal for Micromussa?

Hello R2R!

I am curious if this is normal for a Micromussa to react during the day? I have heard it’s supposed to be a good sign that it’s feeding tentacles are extended but I can’t see the color rings much when they are and it’s like this most of the day when the lights come on. Par level is around 75ish in that spot.. any input is greatly appreciated!

Unknown, this micromusso looks rough to me.

Feeders are always a good sign though, so maybe it is just the pics.

That’s kind of what I was thinking looks a bit rough. But when its feeders are back in and the color rings come out it looks fine.. has me skeptical

I'd feed it benereef or mysis 1-2x a week.

I bet it starts looking better and better. This pic is much better.

After being spot fed. The outer ring is supposed to appear more blue but this and my micro Acan both lost that same shade..

I’ve been using reef roids maybe I’ll pick up some of that and see how they respond.. I try not to go overboard because my phosphates will skyrocket xD

I think reefroids is KNOWN for phos spikes.

benereef is a good answer for that.

Yeahh it’s been rough trying to feed with it. I just ordered some benereef. Sounds great if it doesn’t affect my po4 as much.

for this one (i had a nearly identical one which i lost after a tank move) it did this all the time feeding constantly
grew from a frag to cover a 4” tile in about a year if i remember correctly
i sold tons in san diego but cant track down anyone with remaining pieces unfortunately

i fed mine reef rods occasionally but most of the time i would give it some AB+ soaked mysis that i would feed the rest of the tank with and surprisingly took well to it

2-3 weeks I believe.. par is about 75 in that spot. I could lower the intensity a bit more but been trying not to go too low as I’ve got a trachy on the sandbed

Photo was also taken during the ramp down for the day.. using David saxby schedule on about 20% intensity peak par at the top of my tank is about 120. Bottom is 50. Middle is around 70-80

I don't currently have any M. amakusensis like the one you've got, but I do have a tank full of M. lordhowensis. This frag doesn't look like it's fully inflated to me, but not in dire shape. It may just still be settling in if you've only had it a few weeks.

I also don't think tentacles out in daylight hours is abnormal. Micromussa like to eat. Some of mine have tentacles out during the day, some do not. It varies by colony. I feed finely chopped meaty food a few times a week when I can, which seems to keep them really fat and colored up. I would try feeding it regularly and if it doesn't look better in a few weeks, perhaps move it lower or somewhere it is a little bit shaded. 75 PAR doesn't sound like an outrageous number for Micromussa to me, but I know some people recommend only 25-50 PAR.
