Newbie, want to start a refugium in the back of my IM 30L.

What is a fair price for chaeto? It seems to be relatively high for some algae lol. Is $9 for a tennis ball size fair (off reefcleaners.org https://www.reefcleaners.org/aquarium-store/chaeto). I've seen people selling it in r2r for $25-30 for a big gallon sized bag, but I think that is too much for an intank media basket.

My LFS used to sell it at $5 for a golf-ball sized clump, which will go a long way in terms of establishing a good colony for a refugium. See if there are any local reefers in your area that will give you some because a lot of people just toss it out after harvesting it.

get it locally where even a lfs shouldn't charge more than few bucks. if u can't get it at all then 9$ is not cheap but okay for a one time deal imo. i wouldn't pay more than 5$ but if there's no other way 10$ is okay.

Was that $9 before shipping? I've seen it on ebay for around $15 shipped if you can't find it locally.

Actually I looked now and you can get the same amount shipped free for around $9 or less.

check with your local reefers, I give mine away when I "trim" back.

Or your LFS may sell around $5 for hand full.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
