Hi all

Greetings from snowy New Jersey. As the title says this is not me complaining. I have two button Scolys and a bleeding apple Scoly that are fat and healthy and eating like pigs. My red button Scoly is super fat and puffy. I was just wondering if that’s just because he’s happy or if he’s getting ready to split. I haven’t had Scolys very long. These guys have been in the tank for about 7 months and I’ve been target feeding them Benepets powder, mysis, reef frenzy and Red Sea aminos. I included photos of all three for comparison. Opinions?

Scoly's dont split, it could be shaped this way from being fragged previously though, or its "Extratenticular Budded" a new head from the base of its skeleton, and growing out a new head that way.

Thank you. I hope that’s the case. I love that fat little critter. And as always two is better than one.

I might be wrong but I think scoly's can split as mine currently has 2 heads and seems to be pinching in, but is perfectly healthy. Think it is splitting. Also, in the third image, what are those scolys, as I haven't seen those color morphs yet.

If they don’t split then how do they re produce? I’m sure the ones we have aren’t the original ones from 100s of years ago

They release eggs and spawn :-), or they bud extratentacularly.

There are actually a few coral breeders in Australia that can replicate this now.

I got all my Scolys from TRSC Aquatics. Great button Scoly selection. Good price and lots of funky colors.

Check out Queen City Corals. Tons of Scolys at various price points from super high end to buttons for $99
