Got the mimic along side a powder blue and a powder brown. At first the small guy was timid because of the two bigger powders. But got over the fears I would say and started eating. Eating very well I will add. As of the past three days nothing. He and the powders have been in QT since the 28th of March. Today I saw the mimic pic at one mysis and spit it out. Same thing with a grain of Spectrum pellet. He also did good on red seaweed patch. But stopped eating that to. At first no signs of anything. But today I spotted one larger white spot on his pectoral fin. Had been dosing Ruby Rally Pro, and was planning on starting copper a day after a good water change. But now I don’t know if he would make it through copper. Should I remove him and place him in a 2.5 gal (he’s a small guy, about 2” at most so the tank for observation should be enough) by himself for a day with clean water and see if he starts eating again or he might have internal issues?

Was thinking of doing a kanaolex dose if I put him in another 2.5gal qt I have.

I will post pics later on today after work. The powders are eating like pigs and have some fat belly’s all day!

Any signs of aggression from the powders? My mimic is pretty aggressive but not all are, last one I had was very mellow. May be getting bullied off food sources. Have you tried nori? You may have to set up a video and leave the room to see if there is any aggression. Pics and short video may help.

Can you post a video of it?

Off the cuff, I wouldn’t move it to that small of a tank.

Not sure why you waited to medicate. It allows any given disease to take hold of the fish and ruby rally covers a few issues but not gills issues in some cases and definitely not ich.
Stop adding any other meds including kanaplex until identified and for now add air stone and a Video under bright white light intensity, no blue for clear assessment.
If fish breathing normal or labored, head shaking, sudden darting and even yawning?

What size is your QT? Three tangs in small accommodations can create a hostile
situation. Within a few days a pecking order can be established, and results can be harsh.

I made the mistake of QT'ing a powder blue and a powder brown simultaneously in a 20 gallon tank. Wasn't good.

Nope none at all oddly. But I put them in the QT tank in the dark and they acclimated well together. The powders danced a bit but stopped. I will get a video and pics later on today as I stated.

Yes plenty of nori.

I mean no signs of anything that I see different and on the outside still last night I did not see anything even on his pectoral fins. And it’s only been like this for the past three days. I will post videos and pics under a white light today after work.

I have seen aggression from tangs even in a 150 gal tank. I know what it looks like and would have taken action long ago. It’s a 20 long. Tank that is. And the past week or so I was near the tank many hours. It’s why I noticed he wasn’t eating. Also he was loosing weight as a given from not eating.

@Jay Hemdal and @vetteguy53081 So here is a pic. Video might take time on YouTube to upload. After getting a camera on him it looks like ich. Started copper at 2.0 and will be adding a hint more to get close to 2.50ppm in the next day. Got my copper reader today to be able to accurately get proper reading and not over dose.

Here is a still shot from the video.

Here is a YT link it’s just not finished the upload with higher quality.

The mimic tang is thin and breathing a bit fast as well. Are you certain that the ammonia level is being controlled? Some test kits give poor results. The water looks a bit murky. If it has ich, it isn't severe enough (yet) to keep it from eating., so there is something else going on as well. There is evidence of some level of aggression - the two tangs are on one side and the mimic is on other other, and then, there was a little bit of sparring between the powders (but not connecting).

So they tripes out when I put on the bright whites, I knew you were gonna call that out haha. I would have to. But been watching them for a while and the powders bump each other once in a blue moon. But the little guy they don’t big him from what I can tell. As for ammonia. I have been doing WC every second day, and at times since 3-28 even the next day. I have been using Tim’s for bacteria. I can do a longer video with regular more blue lights just to show they don’t bug each other much. And yes the breathing is a bit elevated on the mimic.

As for the video on my phone the video is a bit more clear. I guess if you don’t have a big time YT account you can’t upload 4k?

Edit, the water was murky being I didn’t do the WC yet and still had some RR Pro in the water from the day before.

Water changes, even 50% a day, can’t always keep up with ammonia - you should test it or have your LFS test it, just to ensure the water changes and Dr Tim’s additions are keeping up with it. Be aware though, that coppersafe and copper power will give a false positive ammonia reading of about 0.50 ppm when first added.

Figured it out today guys. And why he kinda bounces around while swimming. Poor guy is blind! I’m so torn about it! I will have to put him down!! And he is such a nice fish! The love hate relationship of owning pets! Something they have or get things that are no reparable.

Unless you guys know of thing that can repair such issues. I have yet to hear if it. So got some dry frozen mysis to give it one last try. And soaked them real good in selcon. Dumped a bunch in. And sure enough he went after them. But only faster moving mysis that had enough sent. He can’t see unless it’s going by at just the right speed. It’s also why he, once again, bounces as he swims.

Ive seen this more than one and unfortunate. Happens with tangs and cardinal fish in many instances. Often maracyn/erythromyacin helps with eye issues, but this may not be the case

Yea he only senses my smell somewhat and when you touch him otherwise nothing. Kinda bummed after finding this out. But yes it can happen.

I have a buddy that is in the peacock bass world. He has a bunch of them. And he ended up getting one that was blind. He ended up putting it down.
